Michael Stern

Michael Stern is the founder and CEO of JDS Development Group, a national real estate firm integrating acquisition, development, and construction. Since founding JDS in 2002, Stern has spent over 20 years leading the development of architecturally significant residential and mixed-use projects defined by complex engineering, ambitious design, and a close response to their urban context. Under his leadership, JDS has delivered more than 10 million square feet of real estate representing over $10 billion in total capitalization and has approximately 7 million square feet in various stages of development nationally.

JDS's portfolio includes 111 West 57th Street, which pairs SHoP Architects' supertall tower with the restoration of historic Steinway Hall; The Brooklyn Tower, a new tower integrated with the landmark Dime Savings Bank of Brooklyn; The American Copper Buildings, two copper-clad towers connected by a three-story skybridge; Walker Tower; and Monad Terrace, Mercedes-Benz Places Miami, and 888 Brickell Dolce&Gabbana.

Stern's approach is grounded in the relationship between architectural ambition and practical execution. By working across acquisition, development, and construction, JDS engages directly with the technical, financial, and operational decisions that shape a project from concept through delivery. JDS is particularly interested in complex urban sites and adaptive-reuse projects that create a deliberate tension between old and new rather than relying on historical imitation.
